A man is in police custody after being shot during an attempted burglary, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.
24-year-old Richard Bates is charged with first degree burglary, theft of a firearm and unlawful use of a firearm.
Police say that at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a home on Creek Dr in Fenton for a reported burglary. The victim, a 59-year-old man, says he awoke to find a male subject standing in a bedroom of the home, armed with a handgun.
