Mattis says he is not running for POTUS

It surprises me that with all the Flag officers being canned during the Obama administration, that more dust hasn't been kicked up by those departing not by choice. Then again, it doesn't surprise me because the media is not about to disparage their beloved president for the likes of a disgruntled military officer.
Seems to me that at one point in time, before he had his elicit affair, General Petraeus was being touted as a potential up and coming POTUS candidate. Mattis, clearly a well seasoned and experienced leader would certainly fit that potential but does he have enough political appeal? I'm doubtful that barring another major world war scenario will we ever again have a military commander the likes of Eisenhower as president. This country is just plain too wuuusified.
