M&P Shield Extended Mag Release

A friend of mine recently bought a Shield.
Because of a nasty thumb injury many years ago, he has real problems pressing the mag release.
He'd like to put in an extended mag release; however we can't find any that are currently available.

Any thoughts (other than get a Glock)?

Those mag releases actually come out pretty easy.
Maybe a machine shop could fabricate something that's a little more pronounced.
Or could he go with an ambidextrous release?

i'm thinking if there's nothing available almost any gunsmith could probably fabricate something and permanently attach it. or he's just got to learn to use his off hand to work the release button if he's adamant on keeping the gun.
