Greetings,

I am looking for a gunsmith that is knowledgeable with AR's, and preferably in the North Shore/ Souther NH area.
I am looking to attach a muzzle brake to my post ban barrel. Also, my front sight base is slightly to the left, forcing me to have my rear sight cranked all the way to the left, I would like that fixed as well.
I have seen a few refences to removable muzzle brakes. Are they any good?

I don't believe he does repairs or custom work, but he'll know someone who does.

I contacted him a couple of years ago and he gave me a few names, but lost the info ages ago.

Kurt does excellent work, however, he's notoriously slow (at least he used to be).

Anyone doing the work should only need the barreled upper to work on... no lower or bolt/bolt carrier required.


The barrel will have to be threaded, and the brake will have to be permanently attached and reparkerized (possibly recrowned).

The front sight tower might not be the problem. If the barrel was ever removed and reinstalled, it could have been over torqued or the locating pin and/or slot in the upper receiver could be damaged. It's not a difficult repair. Sometimes it's just a mater of giving the sight tower a good whack with a leather mallet, retorquing the barrel or shimming the locating slot.
 
Dave Santurri in RI is an excellent machinst, has a great turn around time, and does quite a few ARs for competition and LE. He threaded and installed a JP comp (muzzle brake) on a friend's AR and you literally couldn't see the seam between the comp and the barrel with the naked eye.
 
I have been told that Mike LaRocca works on ARs. Mike is in Worcester and his ad can be found in each copy of The Outdoor Message. A search here may also turn up info on him.

I've met him, but never had any work done by him. I usually hear his name associated with handguns, not long guns.
 
Check out George Spaulding in Northwood, NH. His number is 603-942-7414. All he does is service rifle gunsmithing and was trained by the military in the repair of firearms. He does most of the work up here on M-1, M1A and AR15's.

+1 for Dave. I have seen some great work come out of his shop, and he is a pleasure to deal with.
