I'm woke....

Hahahaha! I did a deal with The Goose. Easy, peasy.

Did another deal with somebody posting "Goose Rules". I don't know what the hell they are, but that was an easy deal as well.

I'm out of touch I guess, I don't know what goose rules means.
It was a rule set used for the classifieds, WRT holding items first dibs etc

See once upon a time the classifieds were a bustling booming economic machine instead of the now overpriced junk and plethora of dealer ads endlessly bumped.

There was competition and of course complaining about fairness

Goose rules took care of this (there used to be a sticky I thought)

Anyway the goose is cooked I guess

The Goose's Disclaimer:
First and foremost if you want something I am selling then say “I will take it”. I do not consider questions or inquiries as a commitment of any sort. Terms like “I am interested” mean nothing. The fact that we may be having a dialogue does not mean that I am waiting for you to make a decision. The person who steps up and says “I will take it, when do we meet” closes the deal.

• I expect you to read the ad. Every single time I sell anything I get at least one and usually multiple questions about something that is already stated in the ad. Yes it has a 5” barrel AS STATED IN THE FREAKIN” AD!

• I expect YOU to know that you want the item. I am not a store. Do your own research and visit a gun shop if you just want to handle a particular gun. And no I will not meet you at your club so you can try it out to see if you like it. Of course you get to inspect the gun before you buy it, but barring a mechanical or condition issue I expect you to buy it. If you are not sure then do not waste my time. I once met a prospective buyer at the range so that he could try out a revolver I was selling. After trying it out and BSing for more then an hour he simply said that it just did not fit his hand right. WTF!

• If you want to negotiate that is fine, but do not start out by telling me that my price is too high. This is not a good way to make friends and influence people. I have never made a dime on any private sale ever. In fact I routinely lose money and have often cut deals for a friend. I may be asking more then you want to pay, but the price is never too high. Also as stated in the first item above I do not consider negotiating a form of commitment. If you are in the process of offering less then I am asking and someone else says “I will take it” then you lose. Don’t bitch at me.

• I reserve the right to sell to whoever the hell I want. Having said that I scrupulously sell to the first person who makes a firm commitment. Provided that person does not piss me off. Such as demanding that the transaction take place that day, when it does not work for me. Also do not assume that just because you are the first person to post a reply on the forum that you are also the first person to contact me directly. Not everyone posts a reply, some folks just PM an “I will take it”. I am not obligated to justify anything to some guy I have never met who demands to know why he did not get the deal when he believes he was the first in line. You may also rest assured that if you take that tack that you will also not be first in line if the initial deal falls through.

• Do not ask me if it is MA compliant. Actually, feel free to ask me, but if you are depending upon my answer without doing your own research then you should not even be participating in a private transaction. Do your own damn research.

• Do not agree to a deal on line and then offer me less when we meet. If that happens the deal is over, no matter what. A deal is a deal. The time to negotiate is during the initial transaction, once the deal is made that’s it.

Id rather deal with that person then wasting time trying to meet up and they sell it to who ever gets there faster. Im old school. First who says they want it, gets it. Im in the minority now.

Well, it's good to know it doesn't involve someone grabbing my ass.

There once was a man from Brewster
Who said to his wife as he goosed her
It used to be grand
But just look at my hand
You ain't wiping as clean as you used to.

We do have quite a few ghosters in the classified sections. List something, they want it and never hear from them again. I had one meet-up in plmouth. Drove for 45 minutes to sell a pistol and they never showed.
I like to think the outdoor and gun community is more honorable than the normal crowd but sometimes you get disappointed.

Well, once upon a time I thought the "mountain bike community" was uniquely devoid of a**h***s.

Then I found out otherwise. [thinking]

I don't put on ignore but I do skip over goose rules ads. Regurgitating a whiny list of rules "is not a good way to make friends and influence people."

These rules seem reasonable! I’ve been on NES for what seems like forever and this is the first I’ve seen the rules explained.

any classified that has "goose rules" in the description, i put on ignore.

Why?

I've met Goose several times for deals;- great guy. He simply got fed up with whiners, tire kickers, and low-ballers. There's a reason "Goose Rules" became so popular as so many other NES's felt the same way.

From the looks of it most people on NES don't know the pain of dealing with people on the classifieds here.

This should be gospel, this is how I roll after meeting too many idiots selling stuff online.

I've done a LOT of deals here over the past decade (several more than are shown under my stats on the left), and I've only been tire-kicked one single time. And even that dude had a semi-valid reason for screwing me.

I've never needed the Goose Rules. Most people here are straight shooters, unless you actually put a gun in their hand and point them toward a target at a car shoot. Then, they can't hit for shit.

I was talking more generally with selling on the internet. It is better here than facebook marketplace or craigslist (mostly dead It think) by far, but I do still get the regular is it available ghostings or people that make an offer but then still have no interest, so I go with the rule until you have met and paid, it is still for sale, I have had guys pick dates many days in the future to buy something then get unresponsive confirming the meetup, stuff like that, so first come first served even if you want to meet up in a week, that is your risk and I might sell it sooner if someone is more interested. It is also pretty easy to pick out the tire kickers and the real buyers, I still don't understand the mentality of inquiring and asking questions on something you have no intention of buying, maybe alcohol, not sure.

Correct. And from my limited experience, stating "Goose Rules" can mean the seller knows there is some issue with what he/she is trying to sell, but expects you to cough up the money and take it regardless. Putting potential buyers in that "must buy it or else" position is not ethical... not good business.
