AUSTIN, Texas -- Authorities in Texas want to know what a 5-year-old was doing with a loaded gun at school.
The pre-kindergarten student displayed the handgun outside the cafeteria at an Austin elementary school Tuesday.
School officials said a fifth-grader took the gun away from the boy and turned it over to a principal.
No one was hurt.
Officials also said they don't believe the 5-year-old meant to harm anyone. They think he just wanted to show the gun to other students.
Investigators were trying to determine how the child got the gun.
School district police said the adult responsible for the gun could face charges.
A charge of making a firearm accessible to a child is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine
