I recently obtained a few guns from a family friend whose husband passed and she wanted them out of the house. He obtained them from someone who passed many years ago. Most of them are pretty run of the mill with a little bit of age on them (Remington 700, 870, somewhere in the ballpark of the 60's or 70's). One is an oddball though. It's a side by side, double trigger, exposed hammer, color case hardened shotgun in 410. It doesn't look super fancy, but I'm still really intrigued by it. It folds in half (Does not readily break to two pieces like many double barrels), and came with a little soft carry bag that I think is for it specifically because it's such an odd shape. The only possibly identifying mark on it reads AMCACO, which did not return results on Google. It's marked "Made in Spain". No import marks, though an old Gunbroker auction for an identical looking gun claims these were imported by Century Arms ( CENTURY ARMS IMP DOUBLE BARREL HAMMER SHOTGUN .410GA CASE COLOR FOLDING - Cowboy Action Shooting at GunBroker.com : 933736799 ). I've attached some pictures below.
Does anyone recognize this gun or have any more info on it (Timeframe of manufacture/import, info about the company, model name/number, whatever?). Failing that, does any have recommendations about who to ask about this thing? I kind of get the sense that this might fall into the same genre of shotguns that we see nowadays from Turkey. Just kind of borderline no-name or fly by night companies making inexpensive shotguns solely for export, but I'm a youngin' and not much of a firearm historian so I don't know if there was a similar period for Spanish shotguns in the past. I reached out to Century Arms, but I'm not confident they'll have much to say. I don't think it's worth much and I intend to keep it because it's unique in my collection by a long way so I'm not necessarily looking just for dollar value, I'm just kind of curious about it generally.
