Holbrook Sportsmen's Club

I just got the card for this show in the mail yesterday. I might check it out. I got a good deal on ammo cans there before and have bought a few rifles from there. I just wish there was an ammo vendor with bulk discounts with cases of 7.62x39, .223, etc. A dealer with an ammo selling license could clean up at a small show like that with no NY competition.

It's about 15 minutes from my house, so I'm definitely going to put in an appearance, probably Saturday morning. Nothing I really want right now, but it's fun to go and look. I might find some accessories or ammo, who knows?

I went today and found not much for guns but lots of ammo. There was finally a major ammo assortment to buy from. The last 2 shows I went to there had very little.
I wound up with a 10 pack of SKS stripper clips for $5, a few packs of Russian 7.62x54 just for the heck of it to have, a 1,000 round case of Wolf 7.62x39 for $185, and a 500 round case of Federal .223 for $150.
I saw a Chinese SKS there for $275 with a badly refinished red stock. Seller had an original SKS mag un-numbered, and a high cap (30 rounder) one to go with it. I offered $200 and said he could keep the high cap mag but he gave me a nooooo. I thought about it because it had a blade bayonet and the 666 triangle code and I know its a fairly rare model. I just didn't want to have to buy a new Chinese stock and take the gamble of the un-numbered 10 round factory style mag fitting.

I took a ride to Holbrook today and, well, I left with buying nothing. It was small, and the place was packed. I did see a few things that could of been a deal, but I passed. I've got my money set aside for a CMP M-1 Carbine and I promised myself I would only use it to buy something that was a super deal. No super deals surfaced, so I enjoyed an hour of perusing the show before I left.

Only thing that I thought about more then once was a S&W 625-8 for $550. Not a bad price. The biggest gun display was from McKinely's in Waltham and as typical his prices were pretty high.

It was actually a bit disappointing. The dealer that was right inside the entrance was very high. Russian SKS for $495.00? I don't think so. I saw the cherry red Chinese SKS too. There was one that was stripped of lots of parts for $100.00. Ammo prices seemed high, even for today's prices. The one handgun I saw that was possibly a bargain was a Model 19 for $285.00. Since I bought two last week end, I really couldn't go for it. Not much else. Seemed like fewer dealers than last time I was there and a much thinner selection of everything.

parking

did anyone have to get towed out of the parking. i saw 2 or 3 cars getting hookedup to chains out by the big bore range. saw one car sank 1/2 way up the wheels in the mud
didn't see too much, show got smaller, less guns, more stuff.
it's close, but i was in and out in under 25 min

I bought some 45 reloads from M&M at what I thought was a relative bargain.

Otherwise just a bunch of overpriced ordinary stuff ................

At one table, an Advantage Arms 22 conversion kit caught my eye ........ asking price $319 ............... published retail $249 ............. I told Eldon to have a nice day and I was on my way.

After reading what they were selling the ammo for I'm very glad I DIDN'T go. `What happened to the good old days?[frown]

Long gone are those $99 cases of 1000 rounds of 7.62x39. Even .223 and .308 have all gone up. Just a sign of the times.[hmmm]
FWIW, many told me the prices I paid for my 2 cases were pretty good compared to what they've seen elsewhere.

I bought a half case of XM193 for my AR since the 1 dealer that had it actually
had it for roughly $40 less per 1000 than 4 Seasons. Other than that,
very disappointing show - very small and not much worth buying.

I was looking to pick up a SW99 Compact in 9mm and the only dealer that had 1
wanted more for a new 9mm S&W than 4 Seasons wants for the Walther version.
Same dealer also had a used version for $20 less than a new one @ 4 Seasons.
Now I know why I usually leave these shows empty handed....

Gonna try to make it Saturday morning. After that I want to take a spin over to Bass Pro for my first visit.
What's the best way to Foxboro from Holbrook? 24 to 128 to 95?

I would think that would be the easiest/fastest way. If you don't know you'd need to take the Rt 1 exit in Walpole and head south. Bass Pro is just past the stadium on the same side (north bound side).

Bass Pro is a great store, I actually bought something there on my 10th or 12th (?) visit. [grin]

Any reports on this show? What was there for guns, ammo, cans, etc.?

I didn't see any ammo cans and there was the same vendors in the same places that are there every time. Took me longer to drive there then it did to go through the place. There were a good number of guns there. I saw a few decently priced items, but typically high prices were the norm. Just about everyone was selling ammo at thier tables. Nothing jumped out as a great deal.

I did almost buy an Italian Pedersoli Single Action 22lr reproduction for $125. It was like a Super Blackhawk, except smaller. Damn I was tempted, but in the end I passed. It was being sold by the guy right across from the rest rooms. Should of go this name. Oh well.

Oh forgot to add that I saw a lady vendor get into a verbal fight with customer who was about to buy an $1,800 handgun. She agreed on a price with the guy and when he tried to pay with a credit card she told him she'd have to charge him an extra 2% because he was using a credit card. The guy got pissed and told her point blank that was illegal. She basically told him to take it or leave it. Well, he left it. Talk about trying to gouge a guy who's about to buy a very expensive handgun.

The show was nothing great, but for a lousy saturday it was worth $7.00. Left with nothing,
the same as most small show's.

Since turning 40...I promised myself that i would purchase a firearm for my birthday every year until my senses or my bride of over ten years threathen to leave me.[smile]
I was pleasantly surprise to find a handgun at this show that i have been on the lookout for a while now (even purchased ammo in advance). I hope to post my first gun porn purchase as soon as i find my camera.

the usually stuff was there the only deal i saw was a glock 27 for $525 but i ended up passing it up bought some 223 ammo and small riffle primers but everything else was to expencive there was one guy selling a used smith sigma for like $335 ive found these at most shops for 299 new but still had a little fun looking at the stuff

this was my first gun show so i was pleased to pick up some oka priced ammo but lack of firearm deals. My question is this to you older guys, why does a gun club make you unload show clear b4 you go inside. I thought if there was one place that didnt need a cc rule it would be a gun club. I happily did it it just seemed a little off

I think its because shooters may decide to unholster their firearms inside the show and there is no safe direction to point a loaded firearm in a crowded room.
