I was looking for a chest pack to carry a handgun in while hiking. I couldn’t find anything so I made something out of stuff I had. I had bought a pack for $20 on Amazon that is pretty nice for the price, and I had an extra Galco holster. The 1911 is kinda heavy for hiking but you don’t notice it compared to a belt style holster. It also has pockets for phone, gps, etc. Before I mounted the holster I removed all the pockets and stuff sewn into the interior of the pack. Someday I will replace the zips with cording, but it is working good as is.

In the future, you can tether a trigger guard holster inside of the pistol compartment. When you draw, the motion will pull the kydex guard right off the pistol. I use this system on my HPG kitbag with DAO autos. It isn’t really needed on a gun with manual safety. Pony up the $100 or so bucks for the authentic HPG Kit Bag. It’s worth the money.
