Help identify a US GI cleaning kit

Recently helped the family of a friend (now deceased) clean out his belongings and we found this. It appears to be a cleaning kit, marked US and probably for 1911 pistols. It contains nine cleaning rods (one's missing), nine brushes, ten "tools" (see photo) and two tins, one for grease and one for oil (both empty).

Any idea as to it's age (WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam ??), collector interest, value, ?? Any info would be appreciated.
