Outrage over a legal shop selling legal products to vetted resistants.....just like if someone is upset over a legal pot shop selling state legal products, not just products the federal government allows being sold.....then again....gunzzzzzrbad

Gun shop planning to open near Dedham playground, community outraged

ETA when they open I do plan to patronize this establishment. I thank the news for advising me of a new gun shop

They've already got a decent website. I'm in that area frequently and will absolutely throw them some business just because of the negative press. It's unfortunate that they're dealing with BS before they even open, just hope they're decent people.

Obie said it was easier for kids to buy a gun than a book. Who are we to argue?

my niece texted me earlier about this. She lives in Oakdale square. We're all very excited. Supposed to open next month. I don't expect it will be there long. But it's nice something is happening local to me.

The store wanted to get a ffl7 which would have required a zoning variance - this is what all the meetings have been about. He can have his ffl1 without a the variance.

Google tells me this means they wanted to manufacture firearms not just buy, sell and repair, correct?
What could they have wanted to manufacture?

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to start a Youth Junior Air Rifle Program.

I mean when the gun shop sweeps up at the end of the night, loose guns and boolets end up in the dumpster. The kids from the playground will certainly get their hands on them!

Haha that playground has been the scene of countless juvenile misdemeanors and felonies over the years.

Sadly - there is a need for an "Adult Air Rifle Program" - Move over AARP, there's a new player in town, and we'll "shoot yer eye out."

You gun nuts will never learn. A gun shop next to a playground, really? Can't our Massachusetts junkies find a safe place to shoot up for once?!

The reasons people are giving are laughable. With that said, the fact that people are ok with openly voicing their opposition to a small, local business before it even opens its doors is ridiculous. Because there’s a park near by? WTF? Did I take crazy pills this morning?!? I guarantee the CVS, DollarTree, and Dunkin nearby draw more shady characters on a daily basis than a gun shop would. Never mind the liquor store across the street! As someone stated before, all of us here in MA are thoroughly vetted and licensed. I don’t typically get riled up over stuff like this, but people just suck.
    I’m done for the night.

    1. First a gun store near a playground

    2. Then a Pizza Parlor near a playground

    3. After that a candy store near a playground

    Lets see:

The gun store could save your life and maybe someone else's

A pizza parlor will make you fat and give you a heart attack

A candy store will ruin your teeth and make you fat

I know what I would do, what about you?

    Safe a life.

Loose all your teeth and get fat.

Get fat and die of a heart attack.

C'mon. Remember when that guy opened the dirty book store in Stoughton center 40 years ago??? Protests were 24/7 until he closed. (Forget the occasional protests at Alex's.)

Today? Not only is there porn on your mobile device at a moment's notice, but there is a dirty book shop about every 50 square miles in this state. Somehow it didn't kill people or cause irreparable harm.

So the same morons are worried now about guns. Open a strip club - see how they like that.

So, it must be that this gun store lets you test fire a gun you might want to purchase, using live ammo? And the clerk just says "sure, point the gun that way towards that wall, because the playground is on the other side of that wall and they have a nice pile of sand over there to absorb the bullets".

    No?

Otherwise, I don't see how this could be a problem.

I dunno... I just imagine such a store is full of octogenarians hobbling around slowly with their walkers, getting the books there because they couldn't figure out how to get the material on their Jitterbug phone.
