Got a new Coonan 1911 357 magnum

Yes magnum pistol. You won't want to shoot anything else out of that. Produces a nice ring of fire!

I might have to find some magnum primers to try H110/296. All I have is standard small pistol primers and large pistol magnum primers for 44 mag.

2400 doesn't need magnum primers which I like but I'm sure I can squeeze out more velocity with H110/296.

Let me know how it is...I almost got one of those but didn't. She sure is pretty.

I hope the weather holds up this weekend to shoot. Can't shoot magnum at my indoor range[angry]. It is such an awesome gun. I highly doubt I'll ever sell this gem.

it looks like a normal 1911 that spends a little too much time at the gym

Haha basically. Although the fit and finish on this gun is better than the average production 1911 I'd imagine. The only other 1911 I have is a pro series S&W 9mm.

That's awesome. I'm jealous!

Thanks. Ya I'm so excited, I'm foaming at the mouth to get to the range this weekend and run some reloads through it. Looking forward to the rings of fire it shoots.

It is such a beefy gun. A lot of weight so it should handle 357 very well.

so you own two 1911's and neither one is chambered in .45acp...wonder what JMB would say [smile]

Lol nope no 45s. Nothing against 45 but I already have multiple pistols chambered in 9mm, 357 mag, 44 mag, and 7.62 tokarev. Also reload for those calibers. I guess I didn't feel like I needed a 45. 357 mag 1911 is way cooler haha.

I'm hoping the point of impact won't vary too much when I'm shooting 125 gr and 158 gr loads. I got the fixed sight model so I can't do much other than aiming high or low. But I just emailed Coonan to see if they sell adjustable sights separately or if I can use any sights the are the same size as the factory coonan sights.

The adjustable sights model would have cost me an extra $120 and it wouldn't have came with the extra grips and magazine so I didn't think that was worth losing all those extras just to get adjustable sights. Hopefully I'll run some loads through it tomorrow and see how the different loads shoot.

Just heard back from Coonan:

Hello Andrew,

We do not sell sights separately. You can purchase sights directly from Kensight if you'd like. Any sight with a novak cut dove tail should work although you may want a gunsmith to install it for you.

Please let us know how it goes when you take your Coonan out and shoot it!

Regards,

Coonan Team

Good to know that any novak cut dovetail sight will fit.

Ordered a new Coonan 1911 357 magnum

Finally had some time to take more photos and get it cleaned up and lubed for a range trip tomorrow - weather permitting.

Kind of pissed about the grip finish. I was using M-pro 7 and the supplied FP-10 lube and noticed the finish on the Coonan logo on the right grip panel became discolored. I had the grip panels off so I could clean/lube behind the grip panels so the only way they came in contact with cleaners is from the tiny amount on my hands. The left grip panel is perfectly fine!

I emailed Coonan explaining the issue and said I dropped some serious coin on this gun and LOVE the looks of the grips against the stainless but I'm disappointed that the grip panels don't seem to be very durable. Anyway enjoy the gun porn pics

This is it next to my S&W pro series 9mm 1911 View attachment 131859

And here are the photos of the grip panels. It even has a tint of red color which is from the red shop rag I used to wipe down the gun! These grips cost $75 on their website. View attachment 131860View attachment 131861

Also cycled some 357 dummy rounds I had and its looking like this gun is going to scratch up my nice shiny clean brass [crying]. Made some scratches down the side of the case about halfway down. Maybe the gun needs to be broken in? Does say in the manual not to shoot 38s until you break it in after 200-400 rounds. Not the end of the world as long as it doesn't ding/dent the brass. I want the brass to survive multiple reloadings not get beat up like 30-06 brass out of my Garand [laugh]

I'll be honest, you should just get rid of that 9mm now..Haha

Might have to with money flying out the window between car and home repairs and wedding/honeymoon bills.

Once I get my CZ back from CGW, it may be hard to justify having both higher end 9mm pistols lol...

Having your first two 1911s be chambered in 9mm and .357 magnum reminds me of the first time I took my wife into Wrigley Field which was to see a hockey game! (Winter classic 2010 if i recall correctly).....but in usual Wrigley Field fashion the home team Blackhawks lost to the redwings. [sad2]
