Sure, Vermont has only like 700K people in the state, so proportionally the homicide rate will be lower than others as a percentage of the population. But for sheer numbers, only four in one year is quite impressive.

Every other state in the union should take heed, because the juicy twist on this amazing statistic is from the article linked below...

Three of the murders this year were stabbings.

NOT ONE homicide by a firearm. NONE. NONE. <1. The 4th one? A "bludgeoning".

The antis' take?

"25% of all murders in 2009 in Vermont -- a state with some of the most lax gun control laws in the country -- were committed with a firearm."

I wish I were joking... [sad2]

The 51-year-old Haynes, however, allegedly bludgeoned a 79-year-old woman to death with a hammer.

None were with a gun. Some of the most lax gun laws in the country and not one was used in a murder. Didn't the Bradys rank Vermont as one of the most dangerous states to live in based on gun control laws?

You silly boy. [wink] This isn't about murders, it's about deaths and you will find some gun deaths in VT in 2009. Suicides. The brady numbers are NEVER about murders. They always include suicides because without them, their numbers are even less scary than deaths by lightening strikes.

That just means there is no need to have a gun for protection in Vermont, therefore, guns should be illegal to own for protection.

And for this reason, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence ranks Vermont a solid 8 out of 100 points. 8 out of 100. 8%. Miserable, abject horror.

Can somebody answer this question: How can a state, with NO FIREARM RELATED DEATHS FAIL a test set forth by an organization that's trying to prevent handgun violence?

The Brady Campaign should be called out on this by the media. Somebody phone Glenn Beck.

Suicides. Remember this is about control.
