A gun control group on Friday asked two web hosting companies to shut down websites selling devices that are used to make untraceable homemade firearms -- also known as ghost guns.

The Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence asked that Shopify and DreamHost -- hosts of GhostGunner.net and GhostGuns.com -- disable the websites for violating the hosting companies’ terms of service.

The sites sell kits that help create homemade semi-automatic weapons and can be purchased legally for a few hundred dollars without the kind of background check required for traditional gun purchases.

But Cody Wilson, who runs GhostGunner.net, said the products he sells on his website are legal and in compliance with federal regulations. He said although there is no legal requirement that he conduct background checks, he tries to take precautions to make sure the weapons aren’t used nefariously.

“This is an attempt to apply pressure to deplatform a legal, American business selling legal products to law-abiding customers,” he said.

More of the same BS:

Gifford has given up any pretense, she's just trying to keep guns out out of the hands of the unwashed commoners, (that's you and me).

80% lowers typically run about 65$ USD and require machining to turn them into receivers. They're 100% legal to purchase and complete by FEDERAL law - and legal in SOME states. In states such as Georgia you can complete one as long as you're NOT doing it for someone else. IE, you're doing it for personal use, you're the user. If you do it for someone else, you're a MANUFACTURER. That's a state and federal issue.

In states like Connecticut, completing an 80% lower is a crime because they don't allow any NEW AR's into the state. Massachusetts - Ask Maura. NY - pretty sure you're violating the SAFE act.

Cody Wilson sells a small purpose built CNC milling machine that uses non-conductive jigs and GCODE to turn 80% receivers into 100% receivers in such a manner that an enthusiast with no machine shop skills can run it. His machine currently runs 1650 dollars, (USD). The really intriguing bit about his machine is that not only does it run against AR15 lowers, it can process AR10 lowers, 1911 lowers, and he's proto-typed Glock lowers. The GCODE and jigs are currently available for all of them except the Glock lowers, and I would expect to see that coming.

I have a small milling machine, and I can mill out 80% lowers. I ruined my first one. Not everybody has a milling machine, or a drill press.

Cody Wilson has opened the door for people who don't have the machinery, or possibly the skills, to make their own unserialized firearms. He's selling FREEDOM. He's extending a huge middle finger to people like Gifford.

It's not about safety for Gifford or the people like her - it's about control.

As I've said before - I had absolutely NO interest in "high-capacity" pistols or AR-15's until Connecticut said they were going to pass laws to prevent me from having them. I bought a Glock 34, a S&W M&P-15 and (2) stripped lowers right before they passed the "emergency legislation". Turns out I like shooting Glocks and ARs, and I like turning 80% paperweights into receivers and assembling AR's.

People like Gifford piss me off like you wouldn't believe. The <spit> news reporting on "ghost guns" annoys me because people who don't shoot, and some who do, will read that and go "oh, that makes sense - we need to outlaw that". You're not outlawing freedom.

Why are they calling them weapons? And where the hell are the statistics and data that prove that these guns are being used in crimes?!

There is tons of data to prove that illegal immigrants commit crimes, should we deport all of them?

Are they going to ban blocks of aluminum?

More accurately, Giffords pressured Shopify and DreamHost to open themselves to lawsuits by the operators of GhostGunner/GhostGuns by briefly inconveniencing the websites while they migrate to a new hosting/payments company.

Dreamhost AUP doesn't prohibit this kind of website. The Shopify ToS does prohibit "weapons and munitions", but they've been mostly tolerant of components. Fair chance that caving to Giffords will lose them quite a bit of business and goodwill.

They'll have to shut down home depot, ace, lowes, fw webb and the like because they sell iron and galvanized pipe that you can make into a zip gun.

These people need to be knocked into the dirt....literally!.....six feet under!

The reset cannot come fast enough!!!

Here's a public service announcement for Giffords and her sheeple.

So this would be a 'Ghost Gun':

Every bit as real as what they think is a ghost gun...

Folks,

this is typical progressive/socialist/communist claptrap

It isnt about firearms.....its about WHO has the firearms......

Giffords and the rest of the leftists are trying to control PEOPLE and they cant do that until they remove your ability to defend your freedom from the tyranny that history has demonstrated that all progressives/socialists/communists eventually get around to forcibly imposing on everyone else.

Next it will be sticks, stones and anything with a sharp edge

After that it will be employment (look at hollywood blacklistings of conservatives)

Then it will be healthcare, food, shelter

After that it will be dissenting opinions

Then the tyrants will break up families because dissenting opinions are "dangerous" to young minds and state indoctrination of young people.

After that it will be extermination of people that resist their mandatory re-indoctrination because dissenting ideas are dangerous to their control of people

While tyranny comes in many forms, the formula for imposing it on people has been demonstrated to be much the same everywhere its been witnessed.

They do this already. Splitting us up into to groups and doing it in small batches. Kind of the the Borg. One planet at a time. In this case one race/gender/social group at a time. When they get enough of them changed (51%) we're doomed. Where did Mittens say they were at? 47%? In 2012. Almost there.

Has Giffords sent a letter to Ford asking them not to sell trucks to rental companies and home centers? Perhaps someone should send a letter to the Giffords asking them not to violate our civil rights.

Funny that you mention Mittens as he is on the other side of the 2A issue as are ALL of the Establishment Repubs like lyin' Ryan and McChicken, despite what they cluck or cuck!

Brady and Gifford both would have served us better if they didn't survive their brain injuries.

Are you sure? IDK. Their hypocrisy has been front and center in the 2A debate. They are the damn posterchildren for 'guns for me and not thee'. At least with Gifford and her astro-fool hubby!

Lefty politics has always been a divide and conquer strategy. The minute we make it the people vs. the elite, they are TOAST and they know it.

Jim Crow (still dealing with that hangover 100+ years later) was a deliberate attempt to divide the working class against each other to keep the elites in power. The media plays into this and pushes this. We buy into it by taking the race/class/gender bait...need to stop! It should be the people versus the elites.

I've seen them for $25. It isn't hard to find them well under $50.

You can cast them in plastic for ~ $3 each. And they work. Boris has a thread on here somewhere.

You can print an AR lower on a 3d printer and it will work, but it is far more efficient to machine one from a solid block of aluminum using a file and a hand drill.

The genie is WELL out of the bottle.

Gifford and the other idiots can't do a damn thing about it - but it angers me that they tell such blatant lies.

I have 80% lowers on the shelf, jigs and a milling machine. I'm not the only one in my circle of friends and acquaintances. This isn't hyperbole, we look at each others guns at the range and at matches. I handled three other unserialized AR's yesterday when we shot steel after a work party yesterday. As you say - that genie's out of the bottle.

You can complete a 80% lower in the state of Connecticut. And it is legal. And the State of Connecticut can do nothing to stop you. Freedom Arms is doing it now. But there is a better way and much more legal.
