I think a plate in a breif case would be the way to go.. ya heavy but rifle protecton is key. Or perhaps one of those funny/goofypacks that you sling on yourself.. that way youll have your hands available incase you need to hang somthing with your hammer while wearing your armour. I think your hammer is genious for your situation.things alway falling off the walls and such..
Your armor plate could also be used as a hammer once you get that nails head on the floor so you'll be able to drive that nails head in in one shot...perhaps bevel one edge of the plate so if you need to cut a nailhead off so you could use it as a finnish nail... once that POS head is severed off.
Possible have 2 small slots cut in the adjacent sides to the bevel as to have a secure grip...
Shielding as you rush..downward slam to trim a nail down....
