Got a question for the gang. What is the difference between the 2 Bolt Carriers below? The one on top has a larger opening than the one in the bottom

oooh, I know!

the top is semi-auto/ar-15

The bottom is full-auto/m-16 rated.

You can tell because the m-16 is longer/stronger on the right hand side of your picture.

They're both good for an AR-15

I just happened to refresh and did some research on this recently as I just got into AR building. :)

Its not strength, the forward portion that is missing from the semi-auto one normally trips the f/a sear when the bolt goes back into battery.

^^This. A lot of people run them in AR15's for the additional weight, but I think if you just use a heavier buffer with the semi BCG it would be more effective than the weight differential of the auto vs semi.
