Can this be done? I have a 686 with a 7 chamber cylinder. This is not good for the competition I do... or might do. Can I swap out the cylinder with one with 6 chambers or is it a lot more than that?

You'd need to change out some of the internals, I believe. Probably cheaper to sell it off and buy a new 686.

Requires a new cylinder minimum. If timing is off, it requires a new hand. Sometimes you luck out and the hand is OK but not always.

It would probably cost you under $250 to get it done at S&W. after that, you can change back if you want to.

If you're not sure if you really want to get into SSR, you're welcome to borrow my 6-shot 686 for a bit.
