many moons ago, i was Corporal for like two weeks. it was "their" way of telling me i was a cheese dick.
*nothing against CPL stripes, but i've had a bad taste in my mouth ever since 1996 on the CPL stripes program - only in non-combat arms units.
my squad leader was a CPL with 9 years time in service and 5 years time in grade as a SPC. they finally let him to PLDC after he passed two consecutive APFT's and they "handed" him those stripes. complete douche bag.
once I moved on to Infantry Land - i found a new respect for the rank.
furthermore, in the national guard, i got my [STRIKE]skid marks[/STRIKE] racing stripes and wore them for two weeks before i made SGT
