My friend Joe over is going to sell this Colt but we are having a hard time coming up with the sale price so any help with its value and condition would be appreciated. I know in the Blue Book it has a pretty large range.

Colt Model 1911A1 .38 Super Automatic SN 15072 - Late 1933 Production
Year 1933 SN Range 14000 - 15200
located in MA
No Original Box

Is it original?
What would you set its condition at?

You may want to compare it to similar guns on Gunsamerica.com or Gunbroker.com.

Those prices often seem a little high but may give you a ballpark.

The value is what the highest bidder is willing to pay....?

The Blue Book of Gun Values Lists this as

SUPER .38 AUTOMATIC PISTOL - identical to Govt. Model .45, except chambered for .38 Super cal., blue or nickle finish. Mfg. 1928-1970

* Super .38 Automatic Pistol Pre-War

100% - $4750
98% - $3500
95% - $2575
90% - $1750
80% - $1250
70% - $875
60% - $750

Pre-war variations are serialized below approx. 37,000

Where would you place it?

Where would you place it?

It is difficult to tell from a picture, To me it looks like a lot of the blue "may" be gone. But the surfaces look good and clean with no pitting or damage and the lettering still looks pretty sharp. It would probably take a knowledgeable collector and a hands-on inspection to make an accurate appraisal.

Drop a line to Bob Makowski at [email protected] He has been a collector of the 38 Super for many years and has a decent number in his collection.

I wrote Bob and got this back from him.

Seller JackTheDog just sold a 1929 first year of production gun that was is very nice condition for $4300.00. I would imgine to the right buyer your gun would bring in the $3000s....

Is it original?

It doesnt appear to be 100% original to me.

Hammer, grip safety, thumb safety, trigger, slide release, mag release button and mainspring housing all look like they have been replaced.

Just my .02 take it for whatever it's worth.
