A buddy of mine was talking about kevlar vests, and mentioned some cheap Chinese vests he saw on ebay.

Does anyone have any feedback on the type of vests here:
http://stores.ebay.com/bodyguard-wy

The vests are cheap, but made in China. I could not find any info from a US based review, it was all from Asian sources, and no test data, although they appear to be widely used in Asia/Europe. They appear to be made of UHMWPE instead of kevlar. Anyone have any input on this, other than the obvious "would you trust your life to something made in China"? [smile]

the way that China's manufacturing operations have been tainted and corrupted there isn't a snowballs chance in hell I'd trust them

Well, would you trust your life to a vest made in China? I'd trust my life to a good Polytech or Norinco AK, but sure as hell not a vest.

I'd be afraid of the vest giving me cancer before I was worried about it's efficacy at stopping bullets. [laugh]

I rather trust a PASGT vest then buy chinese body armor, they probably are knockoffs they want us to wear and get us killed in the process.....[thinking]

How can you possibly trust a piece of gun related hardware (a vest) designed and made in a country where individual firearms ownership will get you the firing squad? Even if they COULD solve their reliability problems, they would not have a clue how to design one!

I hear their pet food manufacturing is good too!

yea i agree with pretty much everyone here, with something like that you want to go with a trusted brand name, even if it does cost a lil extra, i mean do you really want to take the chance?

Ah, Er, Did I pick a bad place to move next to???

Could I possibly have made a bad choice living so close to the Peoples Republic of Mass.. Are things that bad South of the Border, the border with Mass, that is, that Body Armor is everyday wear???

I lived 63 years in and around the City of Detroit, and I never felt the need for body armor, a nice comfortable 1911 A1, but not Body Armor???

[shocked]

First thing that came into my mind was this:

Don't imagine it would be very useful today.

FYI - This guy is local (Salem, NH). I've bought from him. He's got new vests (and used) and they aren't Chinese made:

Saw his stuff from another thread; I would trust that over the Chinese stuff (Bullet proof vests are supposed to PREVENT lead poisoning, not CAUSE it[smile]).

Two issues with the armor on his site:
* I can't find any sizing charts for PACA stuff.
* The manufacture date is 2001-2005... wasn't there a recall/buyback for PACA vests during that time? I wonder if his vests fall under that recall?
