A parolee with 34 past cases listed on the Kern County Superior Court web site shot his partner when the gun went off allegedly as he was pistol-whipping a 17-year-old victim, the Tehachapi Police Department reported.

Tehachapi resident Jose Jesus Mota, 36, fled and was taken into custody in Los Angeles five days later.

He was booked into Kern County jail on charges of attempted murder (of his partner, as the incident occurred during a felony), assault with a deadly weapon, felony parole hold and felony conspiracy (to commit a crime).”

Mota and Jeffs had gone to the apartment to intimidate a third person.
“While at that apartment, Mr. Mota began to physically assault the victim at the apartment. When he attempted to strike the 17-year-old victim with a handgun, it discharged and shot Mr. Jeffs in the leg.”
