Bullet Mold Porn ✊💦

Last time I ordered it was 5 days door to door.
They beat out midway orders placed the same day.
MP mold out for delivery.

Shipped on the 18th, arriving today. 5 days.

From Europe.

Meanwhile ... Dillon arrived yesterday (ordered on the 4th) and I am still waiting on another Dillon package for a warranty item, shipped last week but they didn't send me a tracking number.

It’s hard to even want to cast with something that pretty.

Make sure you break it in and thermal cycle it to get some patina on it. It will keep it from tinning and it will release bullets much easier
What I read is the break in is similar to NOE molds ...

Heat it and cool it 3 to 4 times.

Then cast one round, then 2 rounds, then 3 rounds, then 4 rounds ... then alternate fill 1 through 4, then 4 through 1 to keep the heat even.

Is there anything else?

I’ve never gone that crazy. I have done the oven method and I’ve done it on a wood stove and on an gas burner kitchen range.

I basically heat it up and let it sit there for 5 minutes then turn it off.
Do that a few times till you see some patina and it’s good.
Then cast like an animal.

I do it on a hot plate while casting something else.

Basically heat for 10-15 min, cool off, do it again 2 more times.

The filling one at a time the first time I got it from the NOE website and the alternating between filling 1-4 and 4-1 from the MP mold website to keep heat even.

Ordered another MP mold.

Placed the order on 8/1.
Shipped 8/2.

Today is 8/5 and it is already in Boston.

Was supposed to arrive today but it shows "delayed" in Boston. Maybe customs?

Anyway, amazing service and shipping. From Europe to Boston in 3 days.

Yeah you really can’t beat them. It’s a whole lot of product for the money and the service is amazing.

The 2 MP molds cast beautiful bullets.

Left = .452 232g aluminum mold. (Roughly 1K bullets).
Right = .452 200g brass mold. (Around 500 bullets).

I really like the brass, no other mold I have drops bullets to easy.

Problem is that a lot of Lee molds don't have a lot of meat around the sprue plate bolt - you might need to pull the handles and drill from the inside of the mold
I'll do you one better.
Remove the screw and insert a small length of fine monofilament line into the hole.
Reinsert the screw and tighten.
OR
Using a steel ball slightly larger than the screw hole.
Remove the screw and plate.
Place the steel ball on the hole.
Rap lightly but firmly.
Reinstall the screw and plate.

Sounds like a good excuse to cast.
Question about casting...

I am using some range lead / wheel weights I bought from a NES member like 2 years ago. I bought a few buckets, already poured into ingots.

This week I opened another bucket, casting at 720, noticed the lead on the top got purple within maybe 40 minutes. I would stir it in, then it would slowly turn yellow and purple again and I would stir it in again.

Any idea what that is?

I read online it is good stuff and to just stir it back in the mix.

Too hot - it's oxides
Turn temp down or cover with wood shavings

If you're using a Lee Pro 4-20 I have a cover that helps with keeping air out if you need one

Yeah too hot. Do you have a thermometer?

Yes, I have the one that is built into the RCBS and an external.

The external reads 720.
The RCBS 660.

It has always been off like that.

It didn't happen with the 1:20 alloy. I had a different pot going and didn't check the temperature, that got to over 800 when I checked.
