Breaking News: Michigan College Locked Down - Gunman reported

(CNN) -- Two people were shot and killed Friday at a community college in Dearborn, Michigan, an official said.

A man and woman were found dead in a classroom building on the campus of Henry Ford Community College, said Dearborn Fire Department Battalion Chief John Hay.

Dearborn police confirmed that shots were fired at the college and that the scene was contained. They declined to say whether anyone was in custody.

A woman who answered the phone in the office of the school's president, Gail Mee, said that the shootings occurred in the Fine Arts Building and that the campus was in lockdown.

Did not end well, but this time it was at a community college, rather than a state U.

I don't know why it's a big deal that it's a college campus.
Is there something special about shooting people in college that is any different than shooting people out of college?

Dorchester/Roxbury has shootings all the time.

I think they thought they had another active shooter situation and that's why it made the breaking news headline. Now that it's "just" a murder-suicide, it's not big news.

There are shootings in my front lawn at least once a week. Never hear about it in the news...

Why did the story die down so quickly? Because the killer used a SHOTGUN, not one of those lethal AUTOMATIC ASSAULT COP-KILLER SHOOTING THINGS!!! (though surprisingly, the victim is just as dead....)

No, that has nothing to do with it. It's because it's just a standard murder/suicide. Society has accepted them as normal.

Isn't it just perfect that when Bush was in office and the Liberals wanted us to focus our attention on the war we were hearing about soldiers dying every day. Now that gun ban legislation is on its way all we see in the news is shooting, after shooting, after shooting. Disgusting how that works huh. [angry]

It's because it's a gun free zone, and they don't understand how there can be any guns there! [rolleyes]

I disagree- if the guy had used an AK-47 and had 100 rounds of ammo on him, we'd be hearing all about it and how we narrowly escaped another Virginia Tech.

College shooting of the day..

sorry if this is a dupe, haven't seen it...

The Henry Ford Community College campus in Dearborn, Michigan, was locked down after the shooting.

A man and woman were found dead in a classroom building on the campus of Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn Deputy Chief Gregg Brighton said.

Investigators believe the man shot the woman but would not provide further information, Brighton said.

A shotgun was involved in the incident, which occurred in a classroom that was not being used, he said.

"We're in the very preliminary stages," Brighton said. "We've just made the scene safe. The crime lab is on the scene with detectives." Video Watch Brighton describe the scene »

Police responding to a report of gunfire at the school had entered the south hallway of the Fine Arts Building when they heard another gunshot, Brighton said.

"We were in the building when we heard the shotgun blast, and when we finally got to that room, we had two deceased parties," he said at a news conference. "We believe this is a murder-suicide."

The campus was briefly in lockdown and will remain closed for the rest of the Friday, a school official said.

The school's emergency system immediately notified students, faculty and staff about the shooting via e-mail and cell phone, said Marjorie Swan, vice president and controller of the college.

"Our hearts go out to the family and the friends of the young woman who lost her life today," Swan said.

I don't care what anyone says, something is afoot here... (not based on the shootings themselves, but the media coverage... 20/20 is proof enough.)
