I got this email recently... If they really want students to be safe they should allow conceal carry to those who have a license to do so...
During the spring, I wrote you about the initiatives the administration
was investigating to improve its emergency-response capabilities on
campus. Like many other campuses have done in the wake of the shooting
tragedy at Virginia Tech, Brandeis recently conducted a comprehensive
assessment of newly available technologies and enhancements in the
emergency-response arena. As a result of this assessment, we recently
purchased and installed a campus-wide siren-alert system and upgraded our
existing e-mail, telephone, and Web communications capabilities.
In the coming days and weeks, the university will conduct tests of the
siren-alert system and the enhanced emergency-telephone system, which
includes a cell phone text-messaging option. The first of these tests
will occur on August 16, when the University, in cooperation with the
Waltham police and fire departments conducts drills and simulated
emergency response exercises. Additional drills are planned throughout
the academic year.
In the case of a real emergency, the university will contact you through
the new emergency-response cell-telephone system to apprise you of the
nature of the emergency, offer important safety information, and,
finally, send the all-clear signal. We will soon be sending another e-
mail asking your cooperation in providing us with important emergency-
contact information to facilitate this communication. Please take a few
minutes to comply with this extremely important request.
I will also send out a reminder about the August 16 drill and keep you
informed through future communications about other developments related
to the university’s emergency preparedness.
In the meantime, I hope that you continue to enjoy a safe and happy
summer.
