Black Bear Hunting

Have a large Black Bear roaming around. Was in back yard yesterday. I had a 20-30 yard head shot lined up on him as it stood looking at me just inside the wood line. He was standing next to my chicken pen just prior to that.

I did not shoot because all I had was my XDs 45. I plan on going out to wait for it later with either a 12g or .308.

Any suggestions?

Yes don't shoot it with a shot gun as it is illegal, make sure you have your bear stamp. As incidental hunting of black bear is illegal.

Bear season is closed.... Unless it is actively damaging crops or live stock.

Recommendations shoot it with a rifle after november 5th so you are not poaching! Black bear season closed the 22nd I belive!
