Birthday knife for 12 year old..?

My son is turning 12 in a few months. He’s a knife enthusiast and a beginning collector. He’s got a decent collection ranging from pretty much junk to his most recent addition which is a really cool, handmade 6” fixed blade from CC Cutlery that he bought with his own $$ at the gun show this weekend.

What should I get him for his birthday in the $150-200 range?

You can fully customize some Benchmade models. His favorite colors and name/date on the blade would make a great coming-of-age gift.

I got a Victorinox SAK when I turned 13.

You can do infinitely better these days. I always suggest a Benchmade, virtually any model; tough to go wrong.

Rather than going fancy, how about going historical? You should be able to find a nice +100 year old knife in your price range.

An old Barlow or Trapper would seem to be a fitting gift to pass to manhood.

If you have money left over after buying him a $100ish knife, a KaBar classic runs about $65 on Amazon.

Buck 110 and a Kabar would fit your budget and are a must for someone who is collecting. If you really want to spoil him a Randall would make an excellent graduation gift.
