Averted a potential break-in

If ever in a situation like this ALWAYS take a picture of them with your phone. Tell them your calling the police and when you bring your phone up just snap a pic. Or be more obvious about it if you like. The point is get the pic.

He did the right thing. AFTER THE FACT it isn't a bad idea to let the pd detective bureau know. This way if something does start happening they know for things to watch out for and things to "connect" the crimes.

For instance Westfield had a rash of break ins. It wasn't until an elderly person had a lady knock on the front door (she didn't answer) and then pulled up and backed in the driveway and proceeded to kick in the back door. Once they were aware of this they were able to solve it and connect all the previous incidents.

But why the **** would anyone call 911 for this or even call the pd before or during this? I had an incident while getting ready to build my new garage that I caught someone in my backyard at 11pm. I grabbed my "back up" and took off after them. I never ended up catching them (was on the 2nd fl when I yelled out). The next day I called a buddy on the force (before I saw any neighbors) and he said there was nothing going on in my area. Later in the day I got a call saying a stolen car was dumped next door. But what would calling 911 or just the regular dispatch line do?

Having a neighbor keep an eye out as the OP did is far better than anything the pd can do. If nothing can happen in a neighborhood without someone taking notice thieves won't stick around or be looking to come back. But why the hell would you want to call the pd over and get hassled, have them want all your info, most likely give you shit, and an overall waste of your time?

I'm all for fair argument, and opinions vary. Libertarians and republicans simply do not agree on much. But how can you criticize a man for the product of government coercion which you support? Is he supposed to sacrifice himself in order to make legitimate his objection to such force?

The statist trolls are to ignorant to accept the difference between reluctant compliance, and voluntary ardent support.

JBT != Peace officer.

JBT is when a cop threatens you with a ticket for washing your car in your own driveway.

Peace officers are duty-bound to protect the peace and protect the community at large and observe/document/investigate/prosecute as necessary.

Hahahahahahahahahaha

The police have no legal obligation to protect you or any one else. The precedent for this will make most sick.

That said I respect cops that I know. Family and friends with cops.
I'd do what the op did , try to take a pic and call the cops .
I came home from school when I was like 14 took a piss , then noticed my door kicked in. Called the police and got out of the house . Figured be safer out side with room. Cops showed up like a hour later .

Wow dude, you are way out there. Not sure if you are a 12 year old, or just really out of touch with reality, but chances are very good that you are a bigger hypocrite than most of us on here. Like I said, I have no use for the PD for the most part, but the situations discussed in this thread ARE their job, not ours. Its what we pay them for, and since we have no choice NOT to, why not let them do what they are being paid to? To insinuate people are bootlickers or whatever just because they choose to work within the rules of society is just ludicrous. Since you are on the intrawebs, chances are good that you are working within that societal framework as well. Like I said, hypocrisy at its finest.

It's almost like you didn't even read what you quoted.

No situation is improved by being the SECOND person to call the cops.

I call the police more often (as in once a year), now that I live in New Hampshire and know they will actually show up.

Never thought I would see a thread on here where multiple people would suggest calling the cops.
Seems like an odd complaint to post.

Call the cops, create a record of the little delinquents activity. Don't have to like the police to take advantage of their record-keeping and correlation skills.

Why? Because not everybody has "a buddy on the force" to report incidents outside of ordinary channels?

You are making excuses.

Shall not be infringed. Will not comply... "Reluctant compliance" is still compliance.

Compliance is not support. The problem is people here support calling the same people who want to strip their rights away for no reason, like good little conditioned statists.

But fine... we'll just say it's a miracle op survived the whole ordeal without them, next time he should just shelter in place... i'm sure the call the cops people would find that suitable.

Compliance IS support. Keep propping up the system you condemn others for participating in.

Hypocrisy.

Yeah, because staying out of jail is the equivalent of calling them up and begging for help. Sorry, I refuse to give them one more call to add to their budget justification reports.

You'll find no hypocrisy here, look at your self next time you complain about socialists.

You are right. Because there is a way to not comply where you don't end up dead or in jail. You must have everything figured out right? Being forced into a system is not support. I'm really not sure where you guys are getting the definitions of words sometimes...

Ahhh. So you just lack conviction in your beliefs. Idle talk, then. Come on back when you actually believe what you preach.

I really think you are missing the point (or that is your point). I don't think many of the "you should have called the cops" crowd questioned the likelihood of the OP's survival (though in my book confronting trespassers while unarmed, may not be my first choice). Perhaps instead they are thinking that "next time" there won't be a concerned neighbor around to notice four kids "up to no good", so by calling the cops "this time" the cops can deal with the kids "this time" so there won't be a "next time"...

I know, I know, statist, blah blah blah statist...[laugh]

Where is this coming from? On what specifically do I lack conviction in? Are you always so grumpy?

Be mindful not to exceed the troll feeding quota. Only so far you can go with someone who is either illiterate or intellectually dishonest.

Who's grumpy? You criticize others for supporting the system while supporting it yourself. Hypocrisy.

You are grumpy, but that is...always. Lighten up a bit, have another beer maybe.

And again, what specifically do I lack conviction on. If you are going to make an accusation, make a clear one. Maybe I do lack conviction, but I don't know what exactly it is you think I lack conviction on. Or continue being vague. Your choice.

"Christmas is a time for joy for every girl and every boy. Rich or poor, old or young, the Christmas spirit's in everyone! But you'll miss out on all the fun 'cause you're not nice to anyone. A grumpy gussy Christmas grouch who hides out in his couch!”

I'm not vague. I just didn't realize I had to spell it out for you. You criticize others for participating in the system. YOU participate in the system. Your defense is "but I have to". The obvious answer is, "no, you don't". You just don't believe what comes out of your mouth enough to follow it.
