looking at 3 scopes for an AR10 platform. i assume 15 power is good out to at least 700yards.

SWFA 3-15, ($700) its rugged from what i gather, and decent glass? only thing that is a detractor is the reticle, while ok, it does not draw your eye as easy as the Bushnell G2 reticle.

or

2 bushnells, one a 3-12 power , which is in the same price range , due to digitaloasis.com it has a great G2 reticle, but i haven't heard anything about either scopes.

Bushnell 3-12 ($737) at http://www.thedigitaloasis.com/BUS-ELITE-TACT-3-12X44-G2-DMR_p_18051.html#.VhMd-isTZh4

3-12 sounds ok , ideally i would like 15

then i was not considering it but digital oasis had it well below its msrp at ($821) vs ($999)

I have been looking for a scope for 6 months. I can't seem to find one scope that fits what I think I want.
Lots of very busy reticle..... I would just like a nice 1/8 moa dot with a few hold over hash marks for windage.... something simple. Then I would like a side focus.

I think SWFA is the old Super Sniper line. Not sure if quality has changed but they were great a few years ago when I first heard about them. I've got two fixed power 30mm tube scopes from them snd have never had an issue. Great clarity and durable.

If 3X power is too much for CQB..reading the other thread. would it be better to just buy the 6-24 and keep it set at 6x, and have offset iron sights?

I've got a SWFA 10-42 on my 50BMG.... it's worked fine for me... Just put a Nikon Monarch 4-16-42 on my new M&P-10.. likin that too..

Almost forgot, also, I have the Nikon M-308 4-16x42 built for the AR-10's... on my Colt 901.. very nice also, but the mount that came with it sucked..

On my LR-308 clone, I have a Nikkon M-308 scope (4-16x) on the flat top and put a Primary Arms micro-dot on the forend offset 45 degrees. The purpose of my .308 is to reach out and touch Bambi. But, if Bambi is less than 100 yards, the red-dot will do the job. YMMV.

Here are the details

I've got an SWFA SSHD 3-9x42. It is the Super-Sniper line. It's an excellent optic - good eyebox, solid, repeatable clicks, clear image all the way through the magnification range, useful reticle, and pretty rugged.

Be aware that there's a significant step up in quality with the 'HD' scopes (3-9x42, 10x42, 5-20x50, and 1-4/1-6) vs the 'Classic' scopes (3-15x42, 1-4x24, 6x42,10x42,16x42, and 20x42). The classic scopes are very good 'for the money'. The HD scopes are very good 'full stop'.
The big difference between the series seems to be image quality, although ruggedness is probably also a factor.

An (older) review of the SSHD 10x42:

The conclusion is really very simple. I did not like Sightron S3 10×42 very much. It is a serviceable scope, but the competition is too good. It held zero and stayed repeatable, but the adjustments were too light. Glass was uninspiring as well, and while not horrible, it was simply not good enough for the price.
The good old 10×42 Super Sniper is a raging bargain for ~$300, and I can’t recommend shelling out the extra cash ($550) for the 10×42 Sightron S3 (if you are looking for a variable though, I can comfortably recommend the 3.5-10×44 S3.
If you want a step up in performance, I suggest you move up the price range a little bit and spend the $800 on an HD version of the Super Sniper. I am not aware of a 10×42 scope this side of a S&B, that I would take over the S.S. 10x42HD.

He's done some more testing with both that and 3-9x42, and both consistently perform well alongside multi-kilobuck scopes, although obviously range of magnification is a limiting factor.
