St. Louis Police Respond to Workplace Shooting, Gunman on Loose

DEVELOPING: St. Louis police have responded to the scene of a reported workplace shooting in the northern part of the city.

A man reportedly entered a power company, said to be ABB Power, with a large assault rifle, police said, Fox 2 St. Louis reported.

Police received a call about the shooter at 6:30 a.m. local time.

The St. Louis Fire Department has confirmed to Fox 2 that there are four victims and said the gunman is still at large.

It is not known whether the victims were wounded or killed.

Family members of people who work at the power company have been calling into Fox 2 to report that the shooter was a disgruntled worker, Fox2Now.com reported.

Several employees in the building ran to the building's rooftop to get away from the gunfire, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The paper also reported that one worker had locked himself inside of a maintenance room in the building.

"large assault rifle" compared to what? a small one? oh oh oh i bet it's high-powered, too! that's a favorite MSM buzzword. [rolleyes]

i hope the cops put the shooter down for a dirt nap and that the victims survive. +1 on drumenigma's statement. why do these morons insist on taking innocent people with them if they are so fed up?

Because they aren't angry with themselves, but with an external "tormentor". It's someone else's fault, you see.

It's always someone else's fault with these idiots. God forbid somebody grows up with a sense of self responsibility for their actions.

It's not the people's fault who don't want to work for their own healthcare, it's our fault for not giving it to them for free [angry]

He must have taken a page from the government. Anytime anything goes wrong the finger pointing begins. Only this time the guy was pointing with a gun.

I bet it was a gun-free work place too. How'd that work out?

The shooter will most likely lose their job.

Well, it sounds like he wasn't very happy with it to begin with. Prison bitch might be a good new direction for him. Of course, they don't seem to know if they're looking for a white or black dude. That might make finding the shooter difficult.

St. Louis Police Search for Man Linked to Workplace Shooting

St. Louis police are searching for a man in connection to a shooting at a power company that left three dead and eight shot.

Authorities are looking for Timothy Hendron, 51, reportedly an active employee at ABB power company in the north side of St. Louis.

Police say a man entered the ABB power plant campus at about 6:30 a.m. with a large assault rifle and a handgun. The incident began in the parking lot and soon moved into the plant's building.

Cpt. Sam Dotson said police are unclear if the suspect is among the dead, as authorities continue to search the area around the plant. He said it is unclear what motive the suspect may have.

Police have set up a two-mile perimeter around the area and are searching room by room at the power plant for any additional casualties. Interstate 70 between Jennings Station and Union have been closed in both directions near the shooting scene. They are searching for a pewter-colored Nissan truck with Missouri license plate OKK 696 that Hendron may be driving.

A fire department spokesman said three people are dead and eight were shot. Details of the shooting victims' condition were not immediately known.

Swiss-based ABB spokesman Thomas Schmidt told Fox News the power company is working with the authorities on both sides of the Atlantic. He did not confirm whether or not the shooting suspect is a former employee at the company.

"We are shocked about the event and our thoughts are currently with the families," Schmidt said.

The suspect's friend and neighbor, Ronald D. Bartram, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he could not believe that his friend would do such a thing and is worried that police are looking for the wrong man.

Bartram said that Hendron has worked for the company for a long time and that he spoke to Hendron just two days ago and nothing was bothering him. He told the paper that Hendron is a hunter and has guns.

"I am very upset," Bartram told the paper. "He's a good friend of mine and I am really concerned. He is a good man."

Family members of employees at the power company have been calling in to Fox 2 to report that the shooter was a disgruntled worker.

Descriptions of the gunman have been confusing to police as one witness described the gunman as a black man, about 5-foot-8, wearing a tan coat and carrying a semiautomatic weapon — but later, a company supervisor called police to give the name of a disgruntled worker, a white man, who had possibly been recently fired, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Several employees in the building ran to the building's rooftop to get away from the gunfire, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. The paper also reported that one worker had locked himself inside of a maintenance room in the building.

ABB Group makes power transmission and industrial automation equipment. The company manufactures transformers at the St. Louis site, according to its Web site. A spokesman says about 270 people work at the St. Louis plant.

ABB has operations in roughly 100 countries, employing about 120,000 people. Last October, ABB reported third-quarter earnings of more than $1 billion.

UPDATE - St. Louis media reporting gunman is among the dead

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/iteam&id=7205858

January 7, 2010 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Early Thursday morning, Timothy Hendron took the fight against his employer from a federal courtroom to the company's headquarters, according to law enforcement sources in St. Louis. And instead of using an ongoing class action lawsuit to achieve his goals, Hendron is suspected of using an AK-47 assault rifle.

According to federal court records obtained by the ABC7 I-Team (Download a copy of the suit), the class action pension lawsuit in which Hendron was a named plaintiff was to resume trial at 8:50 Thursday morning. But at that very moment the Mr. Hendron, 51, had become the focus of a widespread man hunt in metro St. Louis.

Authorities say Hendron had burst into the main offices of ABB power company and opened fire, leaving several people dead or wounded.

Authorities late Thursday morning said that a total of three people were dead and four left wounded in the attack. Police Capt. Sam Dotson confirmed the number but said he did not have names or details about the victims.

Officers surrounded the building as they searched for the gunman who was initially believed to still be in the building. About four hours after the rampage, police sources reported that the gunman had been located in the building and was shot and wounded. There are also reports by some St. Louis media that he is among the dead.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. Fire Department spokesman Bob Keuss identified the suspected shooter as Timothy Hendron of Webster Groves. Those who know Hendron say he is a long time employee of the company, according to local press reports. Swiss-based ABB Group makes power transmission and industrial automation equipment and manufactures transformers at the St. Louis site. Many of the 40 or 50 employees inside the plant at the time of the shooting hid on the rooftop, in boiler rooms and in closets.

The class-action federal lawsuit against ABB was filed by Hendron and several other employees in July, 2007. The suit charged that ABB's pension review committee mis handled employee finances and incurred unreasonable losses.

Trial began on Monday in Kansas City federal court with Judge Nanette K. Laughrey presiding. Opening statements had taken place and witness testimony began. The case was to resume Thursday morning, a little more than two hours after the shots were fired and blood spilled at ABB in St. Louis.

Unless they can show that he was trying to turn his life around and had found Jesus. Then he might get probation. Let's see, 3 dead=3 months probation, with a VERY stern warning not to sin again.

Yup shit happens, such as life.....thought and prayers to the family's....Too bad no one else was carrying ( LEGALLY ) they could have taken him out before anyone else was harmed.

Unless, of course, he has the proper licensing and his guns were legally owned and possessed. If that's the case, he's f***ed.

I know what happened. He was sitting peacefully in his living room minding his own business wen his evil assault rifle made him drive down to his work and forced him to shoot those people! His shoes were in on it too! Dreaded assault shoes!

Unfortunatly, I do not see the solution to these shootings being implemented, ever.
It may sound "cheesy", but the only way to "reduce" these sorts of attacks is strong "community"...

If everyone knows everyone really well, it takes even more to send someone that far off the edge...

But yes, in the end, you will NEVER with ANY laws stop someone who has lost their mind from hurting people if that's what they decide to do. All you can do is minimize the number of people they hurt and ensure that the people at risk can defend themselves if they so choose...

There is also the lesson of failure as a reality of life that we don't teach our kids and they certainly don't get in public school. Everyone is a winner, we don't keep score and "to each according to need." When the poop hits the fan - NO COPING SKILLS...
