I would theorize that a coordinated attack to knock out a large major city(s) for a number of days would be make or break time for gun owners and people willing to defend themselves from tyranny.
I think most people still remember the footage of the cops disarming people in New Orleans after Katrina. A visual aid that proves that the government (and by extension the police) can't be trusted during an emergency would reinforce the value of all weapons.
