Almost a year since NRA scared us with Obama and ammo shot sky high.

You guys in Mass where every firearm transaction is recorded and all of you are known on a list are screwed. Those who live in states where such lists do not exist, not so much.

Absolutely right. That's probably why I worry about it so much.

I just hope others don't feel they're immune from the kind of restrictions we have in MA, if the Obama agenda doesn't get challenged by the 'free press' pretty soon.

I sleep in an RV outside various WM to snatch up all the WWB... [rofl]

You don't own an RV, this your "work" van i see you driving around in all the time!

Oh no, a shooter enjoying the sport and shooting because he wants to! [shocked] The horror.

How dare he not hoard. Whatever.

go back and read the post i responded to. i was referring to the fact that he would buy every box he saw because he was afraid others would get them before him, no matter the cost. THAT will help to keep prices sky high and in my opinion hurts all of us.

actually here is the part i emphasized when i quoted him. "I just buy all the ammo I can when I can because I know there are a lot of people scared they will not get any for what ever reason, I just want to beat them to the punch so I can enjoy the sport."

that will just keep things going. now if all he stated was his love of shooting and wanting to shot a lot - go for it. but buying BECAUSE your scared the other scared people will buy everything up before you get the chance, is just helping to keep the prices up. jmho of course

Exactly... Everyone seems to think they live in a vacuum...

Every dollar is a vote, every vote is a dollar... Whatever you do, you can pretty well bet that unless you are Blitz, someone else (many others) are doing the same thing...

Well, let me throw this out there to the community. What do you think is a reasonable supply to keep on-hand without hurting others with over stocking???

I think theres a 10,000 round limit per household on small arms ammo. We can start there.

I'm sure someone will chime in to correct me, as I am not 100% sure.

Storage laws aside, as much as you want. Ignore all the whiners... they just don't like capitalism and competition. Why should you buy less because some other guy will cry on the internet that the store was empty? [rolleyes]

You could buy 100,000 rounds tomorrow and statistically it wouldn't affect the hundreds of millions of rounds (or more?) manufactured every year. Don't worry about it - buy as much as you can afford, they'll make more.

Buy what makes sense for you - don't worry about anyone else unless you are planning on supplying them with ammo if the need ever arises...

Recognize that if the SHTF, you can keep what you can carry and gauge your "stash" accordingly...

The market will take care of itself (it already is).

some people just don't get it. i could care less how much you buy, go directly to the suppliers and buy it all if you want. my statement simply said, that's one reason the prices are so high, and i stand by that. it doesn't mean don't buy if you want, i didn't say stop it i want it cheaper. i said buying because your scared raises prices and it does.

stop reading something else into it.

I love people like you

This thread is ridiculous.

Post your own engaging topic if you think this one sucks, or explain why it sucks. Then we can engage in a, I'm rubber and your glue scenario." Maybe throw in some fat mother jokes. 8 pages and counting with different points of veiws. I think that what this forum is all about.

Remember, this ass hat of a president is only 10 months into his term. He's got another 38 left according to my scorecard.

So while in hindsight, the gun and ammo craze of 2008 and 2009 may be coming to an end, I think it will heat up again.

I'm sure he'll make a push for some draconian gun-control measure. I'm not sure how big it will be in scope and breadth, but something is going to come from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Maybe not next year, or the year after that, but it's coming. Obama's pet Congress will surely oblige.

Possibilities? Prohibition of all private FTF transactions (except for LEOs of course). Upping the excise tax on ammo and firearms manufacturers, etc.

CalsDad, I do the best I can (buy in bulk, choose where I purchase, etc.). I'm a person that believes you should make a reasonable profit. Now, that doesn't mean I'm talking about regulation here. Just bitching at the prices and the markup.
What is reasonable to me is gouging to you.

I do not think people are being "scared" into buying as much as some of you claim. I find it is as simple as reading the news this past year, and doing some basic study on Obamas voting records, and those of his appointees, and of Congress.

But hey, maybe they'll regulate fear in 2010 along with the healthcare, so all those "gougers" will stop!

How's this for a stupid post: Hot chicks in bikinis shootin automatic weapons

This thread is ridiculous.

[roll eyes]

This is a tragedy. These poor women are firing weapons in fields, by the lake, behind farmhouses, but never at our ranges. It has to stop! We should take it upon ourselves to welcome these women into our fold and out of the cold. To show them that being scantily clad and hot is nothing to be ashamed of. We should start a petition at every range, to make one lane available, at no cost, to these brave young women. Of course I'll Lead this arduous task to make sure that they are granted a place at the table in the shooting community. If I have to spend my every waking hour to make them feel welcome at our clubs, and our hearts, then I am up for the challenge. Of course I will not support: Hot guys in bikinis shooting automatic weapons. Someone else can take up that cause with my blessings.

That is much worst than this post. I'll make a hundred like that till your head explodes.

[rolleyes][hmmm] Not worth my time. Much like this thread.

More likely you'll be banned first.

But honestly, I think most of it has to do with the "he who shall not be named" scare. People are buying more ammo and the ammo manufacturers know it, and are going to take advantage of it for as long as they can.

I think the high prices are due to the raw material prices and combat demand. I am certain that the buying frenzy was caused by the election, and that prices went higher because the industry saw the demand for ammo and firearms at any price. Some prices are beginning to calm down, but I doubt we'll see them drop to pre-2004 levels anytime soon due to the material costs of producing ammo.

power in numbers

I have seen this question and the same old discussion so many times and it always burns me! that we all still don't get it here in this country.
We are in control but we never seem to use it.
We have power in our numbers but we just can not and will not all come together.
In short if we all stop buying the damn ammo for just long enough, we could send a strong enough message that we will not be extorted.
Leave all the ammo stranded on the shelves for just 2 or 3 months and I promise you that the price will drop like a spent shell casing.
If we leave it there for 5 or 6 months you will see the biggest buy one get one sale in history just to bring the people back into the stores.
This works with everything by the way!!! maybe we are sometimes our own worst enemy and because of it we get dragged by the nose everytime.
The best example of this in recent times would be your basic plane ticket just after 9.11 Oh boy did that price drop and why you might ask? because nobody and I mean nobody that did not have to fly, went anywhere.
Band together America!!! or suck it up as usual when you buy your 8 dollar beer at the game, and your 3 dollar a gallon gas, or just keep saying "well it is only 3 bucks more when your cable TV goes up again for the 19th friggin time in 2 years.
etc.etc.etc.
I'm done...............

The reasonable amount to buy is as much as you can freaking get your hands on and are willing to buy at whatever price it is being offered at.

Will everybody here please stop revealing the depths of their socialistic economic thinking?

Buy as much as you can. The next guy who can't afford it should do his part to protect capitalism and the free market by either refusing to buy ammo at what he feels is too high of a price or he should seek other alternatives. Doing either of these will be doing your part to protect the free market by either A) telling the suppliers that they are overpriced - or - B) presenting market opportunities to people who will see a business opportunity to make some money.

If you think you are "hurting" people by buying something - then walk away. Leave the ammo on the shelf for the next guy who has more sense. Either that or - buy the stuff up and go looking for somebody who needs it and sell it to him. Or buy as much as you can - and stockpile it for the day when we all can't get any ammo because we refused to support a free market, a capitalist economy - and a small government , by doing our part and making our own decisions. When that day comes - all the people who "stockpiled" ammo and put it aside for a rainy day - won't be such bad guys will they? Your friend who has a few 100,000 rounds down in his basement that you thought was such a jackass for "stealing" all the ammo when it scarce will be your best friend.

The more ammo and guns you buy - they more they will produce. More money will flow into companies in the firearms industry. Those industries will get more powerful. They will bribe senators and congressmen just like all the other industries that get favorable legislation passed for them. Once they are big enough and powerful enough and have enough money there will no way the liberal loonies will be able to take them down.

Like I said before - multiple times - MONEY TALKS.

CalsDad.....perhaps some of us should banned together like I have with a friend of mine. When you see a reasonable price, buy up the whole damn lot they will allow you. Then if someone needs ammo and can't find it at a cheap price, sell them yours at cost. When the situation is reversed, they do you a solid back. Any thoughts or interest in that? For example, I know a place I can clean out now for 9mm Luger at $13.00 a box. Cheapest I've seen!
