Does anyone have input on moderators for air guns in mass. Are they legal?

The only relevant case in MA I can find is Federal, United States v. Crooker.

The law is "any instrument, attachment, weapon or appliance for causing the firing of any gun, revolver, pistol or other firearm to be silent or intended to lessen or muffle the noise of the firing of any gun, revolver, pistol or other firearm", and air guns are not firearms in Massachusetts.

The safest course of action is to stick with designs where the "moderator" is integral to the barrel.
