80% kits

Has anyone ever tried one of these kits? I'm thinking of trying it for a 1911 and an ar-15, but it seems like the cost of getting into this hobby might be exorbitant.

I had looked into that in the past... an 80% 1911 build (before there were any new MA compliant 1911s on the market.

Trust me, it's not worth the time, expense or effort unless you were doing it as a hobbyist.

I know money-wise its not a great idea, but I like the idea of putting some of my tools to use. I have not had a good hobby for some time now and I have been wrapping my mind around this for a while.
