I’ll start with this mallard taken earlier this month.

Nice.

I was listening to MeatEater. Some of the federal duck regulations are crazy. Like you must leave head or wing on until you get home. You've got to have all of your info attached to your kill. You can't mix up your kill with your buddy's in the canoe (to discourage party hunting).

I had no idea. They said that FEW duck hunters do. Whoa!

My thought - which never got addressed because it's a podcast, LOL - was "what if it's a multi-day hunt and you decide to cook up one bird for dinner in your camper???"

The regulations are very nuanced as migratory bird hunting is managed by the feds and state. I always double check the regs the night before and right before my hunt begins. Thankfully, one only has to deal with tagging birds when they are not in your possession. There are additional regs for shipping them as well.

I had a good week for the early coastal split, I hunted 5 out of 7 days for 26 ducks & 1 goose. Not much for water in the ponds & all the little pot holes I like for early season were bone dry so I only hunted salt marshes. I did a mix of hunting over decoys & jump shooting
The ducks were 1 drake mallard, 7 black ducks, 2 black duck x mallard hybrids & 16 green wing teal IMG_20211018_120116.jpg IMG_20211021_151811_515.jpg IMG_20211019_103159.jpg
