Got back last night at 10 from a national level WW2 event at Ft. Indiantown Gap in PA, about 15 miles east of Harrisburg. Got there Tuesday night. We were the event staff German Feldengendarmerie - field police. We got about 4 hours sleep per night and were conducting patrols, etc, about 16 hours per day. Spencer came with me, a miracle in itself, and we spent a week together without any major catastrophe - a miracle in itself. We've finally found a hobby we can do together. Unfortunately he didn't get to see the 'elephant', but will later this spring. Extreme weather conditions, always below freezing, rain, snow, high winds. He got sick on Wednesday, and I on TH. I collapsed on Saturday and spent a night in the hospital with exhaustion, dehydration, and the flu. The 400 mile drive back was agony in my condition. Currently in bed with a fever, cough, the the remains of a sacrificed chicken with noodles.

I got Spencer out of school for this based on a project for history. We did get 15 minutes alone with a then 19 year old veteran of Payton's 3rd Army. He was a machine gunner and wounded at Bastogne by schrapnel in the left thigh that sever this femur. Spent 18 months in hospital thereafter.

biggest shithole base on the planet. one of the worst/coldest experiences of my life there around the beginning of december in 2015. place is like a natural wind tunnel. the tuna cans they put us in were colder than outside temp (and outside was COOOOOOOLD). as bad as it was, nobody was in any real danger and we have some great stories...but no one at my reserve unit will EVER forget Fort Indiantown Gap, PA.

Are there any original Opel Blitz trucks in the U.S.? As a kid I was amazed at the 8 ton Heavy Mover used in the final scene of "The Dirty Dozen". What a beast those must be to drive. Great pics, feel better and get the chicken soup going.

Say what?

WWI and WWII in particular were couple hundred million of people who in the grand scheme were genetically brothers killing each other. Because someone wanted to go off the fake money machine. F'kin stupid to celebrate how we out engineered ways to kill Germans. What would have been clever would have been to toss the warmongers out of our countries.
