From the favorite New England online classified, this 1942 BSA Shirley was just too good to pass by.
It's been refurbed at some point, with the flaking black paint, Mk1* sight upgrade, and mismatch on the bolt (Fazakerly) and other small parts. But the magazine and forestock do match. I took a couple passes with the brush on the bore, and found some shine. Will need to shoot out the rest.
It has the mysterious FR (field repair? factory rearsenal? fried rice? - who knows?) stamp on the buttstock. Some say that the FR is an Indian rework proof, but this one bears little resemblance to the Ishapore import traits. Painted rack number, H 161. No import marks, other than "England" and the BNP proofs. Good and crusty, just the way it should be!
