I vaguely remember the original news report in which that photo first appeared, the guy was arrested for drugs and had hallucinations of aliens stealing his brainwaves, hence the tinfoil under his hat.
I always chuckle at that photo because the guy looks just like a friend of mine

As for coolest avatar, I like mine because Simpsons creator Matt Groening was a huge Frank Zappa fan and this is a "Simpsonized" FZ:
