one of the guys at FS told me it was to keep the gun from sliding around and keep the case from being crushed

if the gun is supplied with a lock they put the keys in there and then place it in the gun box. It also helps to keep the box from crushing.

When you are riding around town on your moped in flip-flops and no shirt saying "Ciao" - there is no better gun to carry...

I love my 92 - smooth and reliable... But that doesn't excuse the crappy case... (and I might love my 226 more, but don't tell the 92...)

Finally! I've been so damn perplexed by this stupid cup for months! Thanks for the info gents. And yes, I also hate the crappy blue case it comes in. Too embarrassed to even take it to the range.
