I walked those very docks for two years when I lived in Seward. I sure miss those days. Deep fried halibut in beer batter is a meal everyone should try!
Catching halibut is a blast. You never know how big it's going to be. We always carried a 357 revolver and shot them before we brought them on board. You can't imagine how much damage they cause to the inside of a boat. They are incredibly strong fish!
I helped a girl in a 17 ft whaler who had one on in Kodiak. That fish had drug the boat, anchor and all for over two hours. The poor girl was exhausted after about a half hour. In the end hers too was over 300 lbs. We had to tow it to the docks in town where it was winched in to the back of a pickup.
