Last February a crazy took a handgun and a shotgun to the Trolley Square Mall in Utah and killed 5 people before being stopped by shots from an off-duty policeman.

In the aftermath, bizzare charges were filed against the FFL that sold the shotgun to the 18 year old. As the Maverick 12 ga came with a pistol grip, the FFL was charged with selling a "handgun" to a minor.

These charges were dropped in the plea bargain, but they are completely bogus. Any shotgun with a barrel 18 inches or longer and with a total length of 26 inches is a longgun. Nowhere is it considered a pistol.

Certainly, the media, and seemingly, the defense took these charges seriously. On one hand it is too bad that they didn't get litigated, because such charges are still "out there" waiting to harass somone else.

Pistol grips, pistol "like" grips, black in color, detachable magazines, bayonet lugs...generally, anything that is "scary" looking...

Remember, you have to keep telling yourself that the more scary a weapon looks, the more dangerous it actually is. [thinking]

Not that the person who is using the weapon is the actual one at fault... [angry]

No kidding. Goodbye sanity and common sense yet again.

Sounds like the BATFE/USA/AUSA is out for blood.

"Oh noes! the FFL left a line unfilled on the form! its the end of
the world! GET HIM! "

This brings to light the BS involved in federal gun law- anyone thinks
that the "federal template" is "reasonable" should look at this case for
a quick reality check on the matter.
