The Collection

Nice collection, congrats!
You mention a problem with the collector grade Enfiled in another thread. What's wrong with it?
Was that you that posted about a particular vendors collector grades on another board? If so, that was me who posted about the Savage (non-collector) I just got.

Yes it was. Your Avatar gave you away! <G> That rifle isn't in the picture I posted here. The one posted is my Savage that is frankly a better rifle that I paid much less for. The Savage cleaned up nicely and although the finish on the metal is worn, the rifle seems to be in good shape. It's seen way more action than any of the others in my collection, but that's not a bad thing.

Hah, that's funny. Why didn't you ID yourself?
Sorry to hear you didn't make out. From what the other guys say, you should be OK.
I love my Savage. The metal finish ain't so hot but the bore is primo, the wood is great and I like it. I love the grooved wood. Wish the bolt matched but you can't have everything. The price was definitely "right".

I did sort of, but you probably didn't notice. Anyway, my Savage has no SN on the bolt, so I guess it doesn't match. However, it has a little square with an S inside it on most of the parts including the magazine follower. Nothing on the stock. Like your's most of the blueing is worn off at least on the exposed parts.

The action is smooth as butter and it cleaned up fine. I even have some ammo for it now, so I can shoot it.

I think Marlboro will be an ammo trip as I need 303 and 7.62x54r ammo as well as anything else that seems like a bargain.

I hope I can get a waiver for Buy a Gun Day on April 15th as I've bought a lot this year already. Then again...

So you did! But it was later this afternoon and I hadn't checked over there. So is it a Jungle Carbine? No5 MK1? That's weird.

I think the receiver is a No5 Mk1, but not the rest of it. Certainly the forend looks like it was made locally wherever the rest of the work was done. The barrel came from who knows where? The hand guards actually look legit, but the stock has been shortened by about three inches.

The bolt is stiff but that could just be because it needs to be oiled. The striker came out easily enough and with some cleaning and oiling the weapon would be presentable. However, I'm not planning to be a SMLE specialist so unless this is a really clean original rifle, it doesn't have that much interest for me.

One guy on the SMLE shooters email list did say he'd buy it from me, but I don't think he knows what I paid for it.

Lets see some slings and bayonets on those suckers. Once you start getting all the rifles you want, it becomes all about the accessories. [smile]
I see a Mauser type in your future, possibly a Turk for the low price of under $70. They're great shooters, very accurate, and if you act fast you might can still get all matching ones like I did.
I love corupting people's minds and planting the evil seed of milsurp-itis.[laugh]
I really gotta take a shot of my whole collection. Getting near inspection/maintenance time with the humid months coming, and that makes for perfect time to get a family photo together. Hope my new camera has a wide angle setting so none get left out. [thinking]
