Thinking about getting a Springfield Trapdoor, maybe an 1884 model but not picky. Don't know a whole lot about them right now so anyone who has/had one, tell me about them.

The cartridge looks enormous to me, is the kick worse than a mosin carbine?

Not really, but an original trapdoor should be downloaded a bit. They will not take the kinds of pressure that a Marlin Guide Gun will.

Have wanted one for a while after shooting a friend's. Lot of fun.

sounds like they're addictive like Mosins. Once you shoot one, you gotta have one

Try this:

M1888 (Fall 1892) combo cleaning rod and bayonet style. Third unsuccessful attempt at combining the cleaning rod and the bayonet. I got this from a NES member in the spring; it was carried by his great-grandfather in Cuba in 1899 as part of the 12th NY volunteers.

You have your pick from rifles, carbines, and cadet versions over several models:

1865, 1866, 1868, 1869, 1870, 1873, 1875, 1877, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1884, 1886, and 1888.

Ammo is .45/70, .30/06. and .45acp.
