Yes, micarta. Never handled a Ranger - the blade lock is actuated by the sheild! Usually I use even fancier knives no matter what(some
more gently than others) - this one went right back in the box for now.

Asian laws are generally worse. I have a bladeless multitool I carry when in Asia just for this reason, while I carry a Victorinox when in Europe. It's stupid how insane laws are over a simple knife.
 
I wish Victorinox made an Alox Pioneer or Cadet or similar, but with scissors instead of a knife blade. Useful and avoids all the BS knife laws of the world. I mean, I'd prefer there weren't all the stupid knife laws, so there was no need for a knifeless SAT/multi-tool, but that's another issue.
