I asked a dealer friend of mine to hold a 629-1 4 inch for me. It's LNIB. Friend says he personally knows the guy that sold it to him and that it has less than a box of ammo thru it...it looks like it too. It's a square butt with original grips and it's a beauty.

He wants $400 for it. Does this seem reasonable? remember this is MA.

When were the -1 models made?

$400 for a LNIB 629-1 would be reasonable almost anywhere. Unless there is something wrong with it. Supica and Nahas' Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson has a suggested price of $500 for NIB and $425 for EXC. Check it out carefully and if it checks good, grab it and run. The 4" barrel seems to be particularly desireable unless you plan to hunt with it.

I fondled it and examined it for over an hour and it looks perfect. He's holding it for me until next week when I told him I'd let him know for sure.
