... well, almost mint.

Disclaimer: No Samurais were lost in this presentation (just a wad of cash).

So, my local shop had a couple of Mauser choices this week. The first was revealed as a K98 Turd. But the next is a Spandau M71/84 which appears unissued - not to be confused with the movie prop guns from "The Last Samurai", which are nicely rebuilt - but this looks like the real deal. Once for the 4th Guards Infantry Regiment.

Just one small spot on top of the barrel where a previous owner got a little carried away with rust removal, otherwise it's a 95-plus% gun. Not enough bandwidth exists on the interweb to photograph all the matching numbers, so I'll need you to trust me on that aspect.

Here are some highlight pics. Enjoy, and thanks for looking.

Very nice. These late ones got little use as they were almost immediately rendered obsolete by the Gewehr 1888 Commission rifle. As usual, the regular army got the new rifle, and the 71/84's went to the Landsturm.
