Sis moved to CT, left gun here, let LTC lapse

Ok, I have possession of a S&W .38 Lady Smith, 1996 vintage. Sis moved to CT a few years ago, handed me the gun and let her MA LTC lapse.
How do I properly transfer ownership of the piece now? Do I have to let a dealer do the transfer to me?

Her LTC did not "lapse;" it became void the instant she ceased to be a Massachusetts resident.

Transfer it through a MA FFL.

That's the way I was looking at it. Definitely the 'cleanest' way out.
