Looking to spice up my plinking range back home on the family farm in NH (~300 acres). Currently we have a berm set up in the sandpit, but I'd like to at least build something to hang paper from.

Inspire me! Let's see what your backyard set-up is like!

I don't have much for pictures, but here are a few of our little spot. Certainly nothing special. They at least give you a feel for the berms that I have to work with.

It's great having land in NH. Looks like a nice place to shoot.

My place in NH has a number of nice steep hills on the property that are natural berms. There is another large hill that I shoot into off one of our decks. It's nice to wake up and pop off a few rounds before my morning coffee.

No pictures handy.

i hate you. [wink]

looks good.

why not just build some sign holders like the stores place on the sidewalks?

-just a thought....

this is the direction that I am going to go. I need to make something that is movable as we routinely take sand/gravel away and reconfigure the pit. I'm thinking 2x4/6 legs with heavy cardboard (cheaper to replace) or plywood backing for the paper targets.

Also considering welding up some plinking targets. Anyone make their own metal targets?

I'd like to set up some targets in an "action" style configuration too.

Big plans [rolleyes]

hmm, good idea!

going to have to do a little work to the property to accomodate the # of shooters, but it is definitely in the cards!

BTT.

It's been a while since I have been around, but I got the AR together last weekend finally and took it out to our range. Here's some shots. My brother helped me get it close to "0" with the flip-up rear sight and she shoots like a dream. Not so much on the long shots, still have to work on that!

enjoy:

Nice setup...I use a dead tree at the tree line i n my back yard. I don't use any high powered stuff on the million to one shot that gets through the heavy wooded area between me and the next piece of property. Lucky the gun club is a short drive. I like the home made targets...I may need to do some welding this weekend.

That steel target is nice. I just got a 10" diameter 1.5" thick steel plate to use as a 100 yard rifle gong. I am hoping it will hold up to 30-06 and 7.62x54R, but that russian steel core has me a bit worried about ricochets. I have made a few from 1/2" plate and they look like swiss cheese after a day at the range. I made a few new 1/2" plates to use for lighter calibers. My dad is a machinist so I get to hit the scrap bin whenever I want. I wish I had the space that you do though, has to be nice to have your own range. I would never leave home! Well, except to buy ammo. I have a 75 foot pellet gun range, but it's too close to houses for even rimfire.

Starvin, nice set up, I would just make the backstop a little higher if I was you... You definately dont want to shoot with the target stand that close to the top of your back stop.... Talking from experience....[wink]
