school me on this SW revolver

Your Grandfather was a practical man, and knew what he needed.

The Charter Arms he took on as daily carry was a step up in concealability and performance. Even so, your Grandad thought enough about the 32-20 to hang on to it. He did the right thing. It's a classic.

Being the practical man he was, he'd probably tell you to spend your money on a new, improved modern handgun rather than restore the S&W. That's what he did. Heck, the S&W works just as well just the way it is, without spending another dime. Jose may be willing to restore this gun, but your Grandfather wasn't. He spent his money on a newer, better solution.

FWIW, I am in the group that votes, leave it as it is. Have a gunsmith check it out to be sure it will fire safely, then shoot it once a year

That is a great gun with a great story. No matter what you do with it you have a piece of your Grandfather's life that will last forever.
