A convenience store clerk shot and killed one man and wounded another Tuesday night after police say they tried to rob the store.

The suspects entered the Kangaroo Express at 1111 Sniders Highway at 10:05 p.m. and jammed a Glock pistol into the clerk’s abdomen, according to a Walterboro police report released this morning.

The clerk told police he grabbed the weapon and wrested it from the suspect, prompting one of the men to punch him in the face. The victim pointed the gun at the suspects and fired multiple times.

The suspects ran out the back door. As police arrived, Nigel Amir Holmes called 911 on his cell phone and told dispatchers he was in the woods near the store with a gunshot wound.

Holmes was found at 10:20 p.m. and taken to Colleton Medical Center where he was later flown to the Medical University Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Officers followed a blood trail from the store and found the second suspect dead, lying face-down in the woods with a gunshot wound to the chest at 10:49 p.m., according to the police report.

Colleton County Coroner Rich Harvey identified the man as Octavio Cochran, 22, of Walterboro. An autopsy is being done today.

The incident report says the gun used in the incident was reported stolen out of Hollywood.

Why waste money on an autopsy?
I can tell you from here that he died of "lead poisoning"
