Today I'm remembering the 18 Rangers and Delta Operators who lost their lives on this day twenty years ago in The Battle of Mogadishu. These events would go on to inspire the book and movie, Black Hawk Down. MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart would be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for their valor and sacrifice defending the crash site.
I was 19 y/o on my 1st combat deployment in Saudi Arabia at the time. News of what happened spread pretty quickly and we were able to see some of the footage via satellite.
RIP Brothers.

30th Anniversary today.

The sacrifices made on that day both large and small have had immeasurable positive effects on individual and unit conduct and performance over the last thirty years.

Thanks.
